A Teen Questions Her Drinking Friends To Learn More Information About Alcoholism And Alcohol Abuse

Heather drank to an excess on a regular basis with her buddies. One Thursday after school she started reflecting on the amount of alcohol she consumed and the irresponsible drinking of her pals. As a consequence of this, she courteously asked all of her buddies the following question: "what do we honestly know about alcoholism, binge drinking, alcohol abuse, and alcohol poisoning? Stated more precisely, how much alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse information do we really know? For our age, we obviously drink in a hazardous manner and I am really starting to wonder if we are headed for a life filled with alcohol-related difficulties when we become adults.

I think that we should go on the Internet and discover all that we can about alcoholism, binge drinking, alcohol abuse, and alcohol poisoning. And then if we have any nagging issues that we really do not comprehend after we complete our Internet research, we can drive to the student health center at the college and ask Nurse Pine to explain things to us.

It should not come as a complete shock that what Heather stated would set off a heated discussion. For example, her best friend since the second grade, Anne, said that they are too healthy and too young to be worried about abusive and careless drinking. Another drinking pal named Ryan rationalized that since most adolescents drink there is no logical reason why they should be any different. Another classmate named Kylie said that all she wants to do is to have fun drinking with her pals. And still another drinking friend named Theodore in fact agreed with Heather essentially because his parents were both alcohol abusers and both of his parents had a history of alcohol related issues.

Heather openly mentioned to her pals that she understood everything that they had articulated but that involving oneself in abusive and irresponsible drinking at such a vulnerable age truly cannot be very healthy or conducive toward establishing a meaningful life. When a couple of her pals asked what kind of alcohol issues Heather was talking about, Heather articulated the following: alcohol-related diseases such as heart disease, cirrhosis of the liver, and cancer and other alcohol-related problems like alcohol-related traffic accidents and fatalities, alcohol poisoning (which can be fatal in some instances), and alcoholism.

When Heather then underscored the fact that excessive and hazardous drinking typically results in financial, legal, relationship, and school problems, some of her pals finally started to comprehend how comprehensive and how destructive abusive and irresponsible drinking can be. To be sure some of her drinking buddies opened up and began to explain how these alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse effects had adversely affected their parents and some of their friends.

After articulating some of the alcoholism and alcohol abuse problems that are related to excessive and hazardous drinking, most of her drinking pals seemed to like the idea about getting information on the Internet. They were, conversely, cautious about discussing their drinking circumstances with the administrators at school. As Heather heard this she thought to herself, "at least they are open to finding out more about their hazardous and abusive drinking. This is a fantastic start."
