A Ninth Grader Drinks Excessively With His Pals, Almost Dies From Alcohol Poisoning, And Learns That Paying Attention In Class Can Affect Your Life Andy was a high school ninth grader who usually seemed to be living on the edge. Andy had a risk taking personality and regularly wanted to do what his older brothers were doing. One of his friends was old enough to buy alcohol. After buying some wine, beer, and wine coolers, Andy and all of the guys went to a public park and drank for around two or three hours. After drinking around nine alcoholic beverages, Andy started to feel nauseous and then threw up. When he passed out on the baseball field, one of his pals called 911 for assistance. It was fortunate that the call for emergency assistance was made because when his pals went to the hospital to see Andy, they learned that Andy had been manifesting alcohol poisoning symptoms. To be more specific, Andy had experienced an alcohol overdose. After receiving alcohol poisoning treatment, Andy was in reality surprised to realize that he had overdosed on alcohol because he "only" had around five or ten alcoholic beverages. When he told this to the attending doctor at the hospital, in spite of this, the doctor told Andy that drinking five or ten glasses of wine over a two or three hour period of time could certainly be substantially more alcohol than can be metabolized by the body. The doctor told Andy that he was a lucky person because he almost died from alcohol poisoning the night before. While talking to his parents, Andy notified them that there must be a solid reason why he did not pass away and that he was grateful that he was still alive. At the time, what his health teacher, Mr. Johnson, was articulating didn't seem to make too much sense to Andy. Now that he almost passed away, on the other hand, he felt that he should have listened more closely in health class and applied what he had learned to his personal life. Andy informed his parents that he couldn't wait to go to school and make an apology to Mr. Johnson for not paying better attention to something that was as noteworthy as learning about alcohol poisoning.
